Electric 6 Rant.....Disappoint.

Metro here.  I was a fan.  But I can't be anymore...

Electric 6, you have betrayed me. I, like everyone else, loved the first 3 albums (I even liked the 4th!) but you have betrayed your audience.  You have went from being the jesters to being the tossers.  It all started years ago when you stopped making decent records....NO.
This all started years ago when my Dick Valentine screen print was not signed at a Blowout.

Then the law of diminishing returns continued.
Kickstarter after Kickstarter after Go Fund Me.  Help ussss!!!!! (But ignore the fact we're touring Europe.  Nothing to see there).

Then, jump cut to present day.  They actually have a Groupon for their St. Andrews show.  A groupon.....  Y'know, now I feel bad so here is the link to buy tickets HERE
But if you want to use the Groupon, please go there instead.  The JCM has never had to resort to Groupon for any of their shows, so I have some sympathy for E 6.  Everybody, get out and support your local legends.  Maybe they will even say "Our next album will be like our first" like that hasn't happened for the past 5....

You know how you accuse every band who takes 30 seconds of time to tell you that you're an idiot of "riding on JCM's coat tails?"

POT CALLING KETTLE, COME IN KETTLE, THIS IS POT.

I never said they rode JCM's coattails. JCM has never had to resort to a Groupon to sell a show. We're much more inventive than that.

Haha. You've play 15 shows in ten years. You've never been is a working band. You've never relied on it for your income. You no nothing about playing music other then a means to promote a blog that criticizes almost everybody but you. You're the greatest with the best idea regarding promotion and how to get people to come to a show. Now you're a super hero righting all wrongs. Never reflect on what a putz you can be. More bullshit from an imposter. Haha

Anonymous 10:14 - "You've play 15 shows... You no nothing..." Really? That's what you've got? Do you want to to try the "nobody reads this blog" line, too?

You're calling the realest guy in the room an imposter? Seriously? Listen. If you're going to try to take a shot, at least fucking come correct. And try proof-reading, too, for fuck's sake.

I was told many moons ago that Electric 6 was started via a trust fund. Now I'm not saying that's a fact, but I heard it from a few people in the know. Which would explain why the quality of their music and videos has gone down since the early 2000's. The fact that they fleece their fans with multiple Kickstarters and venues booking them have to resort to Groupon to try to sell tickets just rubs me the wrong way. The super hero righting wrongs line rubs me the wrong way too. So you're cool with absolutely zero other people posting about all the shit that goes on in the local music scene for fear of being left out of the "next Fest" or losing their press credentials. I'll be the first person to tell you that I'm a putz, a guy who never utilized his full potential. But I do post facts. You want facts? I can get you facts. I can get you facts by 3 o'clock. I'm staying. Finishing my coffee.

Sorry for my rant Anon. Let me actually address all your points. But first keep in mind that 95% of blogs or FB would just delete/block your comment (or not even allow it to be posted to begin with). People really don't like opposing views on their pages these days. There's fact #1. Now, am I lying?

Let's continue- "15 shows in ten years"- Nahhh, I would say 60 shows in ten years which comes out to 6 shows a year which is what every local band should strive for. Its the anti-Woodman model. People get burnt out seeing the same names every month. Look at Carjack. Dude has been doing the same show since 2008.

Let's continue- "never had to rely on it for income". During the bulk of the JCM existence I had a management job in the hospitality market. I didn't have to. I didn't have to set up a Kickstarter with cost efficient rewards just because I wanted to take a bus through Europe. Fact. Am I lying?

Let's continue- "music as a means to promote a blog that criticizes almost everybody but me"- I don't get paid for this. I do it for fun. And I can criticize anybody I want because its my blog. If I feel that Tunde is being shoved down everybody's throats on a Tuesday, I'll post it on a Tuesday. (Them some big throats btw...) Fact. Am I lying?

Let's close with full circle back to original post. Electric 6 has been out of ideas for years and they are using the goodwill of their (aging) fan-base to run multiple Kickstarters to take glorified vacations. That's not what a working band is. Ask the venues using Groupon to fill the place. Also, to E 6, here is a Pro-tip. Don't play a free show months before a paid show. We all know you got paid for the free show, but still. Greasy. Final fact.

Annnnnnnnd Metro just handed you your ass, Anonymous 10:14. Systematically and point by point. Any more argument? Facts and logic can be pretty scary to some folks.

List all 60 show dates putz. I was at one. There were 20 people there.

Anonymous said...

How about you try to do your research for a change, putzanonymous 3:29? Metro has to hand you people everything? Look up the shows yourself and then try to call him out.

You look them up. I don't give a shit. But he is full of it. That band had its place but not in music. Are you his protector? His Mommy? Girlfriend? Boyfriend? Don't be fooled by this putz.

Bryan Metro said...

"I don't give a shit" vs. "List all the shows". You're sending me mixed signals bay-bay. I doubt any local band could list all of their shows since their inception so your request is idiotic. Hell George Morris himself would have a seizure just trying to list all the shows he was "fed" in 2017 alone.
So you were at the show with 20 people eh? One of our larger turnouts. All kidding aside I'd love to know the year of that show because after we morphed to a full band and did 2-4 shows a year around 2015 every one was packed. I'd list them but that's not my job.

Anonymous said...

It was before 2015. And there's packed in a small venue and packed in a large venue. You never played a large venue.

And there is a big difference between playing 5 show locally and trying to make a living playing 100 shows a year. Maybe 3 in Detroit.

My whole point is E6 is a international Band that has to scrap every dime together to keep it going. You never had to. You just had to dress up in meat.

Bryan Metro said...

It was never my band's doctrine to become a multi-city touring band. It was just for fun. There's nothing wrong with that. My whole point is E6 is using the Kickstarter thing to basically finance glorified vacations. If they can pull it off (which they have) then cool for them. But everybody doesn't have to get their panties in a bunch when somebody points it out.
Oh and please spare me "Scrap every dime together to keep it going". Here's another pro-tip for them. Make a decent record again and the chips should fall into place if you still want to be a non-Groupon touring band. Yeah I dressed up in bacon right pretty in 2000'whatever, and more people are talking about my blog than Electric six in 2017.

It's all been downhill since the original guys left.

Bryan Metro said...

"Left" is a generous word to use. They got 2 hits (that they milk to this day) and people were dismi$$ed.

2 more than you
